General Registration Instructions

NEW this year!

  • On-line registration is now available for all Skaters, PreCanSkate thru Adult StarSkate.

  • Instalment payment plan available for on-line registrations too!

Before you register . . .

  • Understand the commitment that you are making to the Club with your membership.

  • If you are a returning member, have your Skate Canada number ready.  If you do not know your, or your child's Skate Canada number, email the club .  Include the full name and date of birth of each member for which you are requesting a number, in the email.

  • If you are a skater at the Junior level or higher (StarSkater) . . . determine which session level you are qualified for, based on your cumulative factor points.  Refer to the Programs page to calculate your Factor Points.  Qualifications as of September 1, 2008 are as follows:

    CanSkate / Pre-CanSkate - Stages 1 through 6

    Junior - Passed Stage 6, up to 1 factor point (see exception on Programs Page)

    Intermediate - 1 to 3 factor points

    Senior A - 4 to 8 factor points

    Senior B - 9 or more factor points

     

  • Review the 2008-2009 Schedule to determine which sessions you wish to register for.  StarSkaters who take private lessons should confirm their Coach's availability before registering for sessions to avoid the fee associated with changing sessions after registering.

  • Call the Bingo Coordinator and book your required Bingos (applicable to skaters at the Junior thru Senior B levels). 

  • Complete the Volunteer Commitment Form and mail or drop off to the Club (applicable to skaters at the Junior thru Senior B levels).

  • Review the registration steps document below and the on-line registration instructions (if applicable) for information on payment plan criteria and where to send in your manual registrations.

Number of skaters per session is limited.

Registration by Mail

Print and complete the appropriate registration form or package above.

Do not forget to book your required Bingos and check with your coach on availability of lessons prior to registering for sessions.

Completed registration forms may be dropped off in the Club’s green mailbox at Tomken Twin Arena, (just inside the door to Rink 1) or mailed to the Club at:  Mississauga FSC

In person Registration

For those who would prefer to register in person you may do so on Saturday, September 13, 2008 between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm at Tomken Twin Arena.  Registration forms will be available on-site.  Post-dated cheques (where applicable) must accompany the registration form.

Registration Categories

  • Regular – enjoys all the privileges and commitments available to MFSC members, Club Competition, Ice Show, Bingo and Volunteer hours (where applicable), and voting privileges.  StarSkaters who wish to test, must skate a minimum of 2 sessions per week.

  • Guest   non Home Club member limited to skating one session per week at MFSC - not required to participate in bingos, volunteer hours or fundraising (chocolates); not eligible to test unless they have permission from home club in accordance with Skate Canada rules for testing out-of-club; not eligible to participate in MFSC club competition or MFSC Ice Show; participation in MFSC hosted skater development sessions will be at “non-member” rates.  This type of registration does not include membership in the Corporation or voting privileges.

  • Associate – non Home Club member with no limit to number of sessions skated - required to participate in bingos, volunteer hours and fundraising (chocolates); not eligible to test unless they have permission from home club in accordance with Skate Canada rules for testing out-of-club; not eligible to participate in MFSC club competition; eligible to participate in MFSC Ice Show, group number(s) only; eligible to participate in MFSC hosted skater development sessions at “member” rates.

  • Sustaining – a skater who has been with the Club in prior years and she/he is unable to skate with the Club because of attending College or University in another city, the skater may request a sustaining membership.  This allows them to maintain their affiliation with the Club, guest skate when in town and to register in future years as a returning member.  A letter from the skater is required explaining his/her absence, history with the Club, Skate Canada Number and a $81.00 cheque, representing the $50.00 membership fee plus the $31.00 Skate Canada fee.

  • Partneringnon Home Club member that partners club members for the purpose of dance tests.  A fee of $50.00 plus the $31.00 Skate Canada fee applies.

Adding/Changing A Session

  • Changing A Session:  If you wish to change sessions after your registration has been processed, a $25 change fee will be applied to every session change.  There may be a different cost for the session; that difference, along with the change fee must be paid before the skater will be allowed to switch sessions.  Changes will only be allowed if there is space on the session.
  • Adding A Session:  Members may add sessions at any time during the season.  The cost of the session added will be pro-rated based on the remaining skating weeks left in the session.
  • Requests to change or add session(s) should be emailed to the club at .  Session changes/additions will not be offered on-line or as part of the payment plan – charges must be paid at the time of change/addition, by cash or cheque.

Refund Policy

  • Fall / Winter Season Refunds:  Refunds for all sessions will only be considered by written request to the Board.  The deadline for refund requests for all levels and sessions is November 17, 2008.  After November 17, only refunds for medical reasons will be considered.  Requests must be presented to the board in writing, together with a Doctor’s Certificate.  All refunds of session fees will be pro-rated.  The Skate Canada fee, Administration fee and Mandatory Fundraising Chocolate fee are all non-refundable.
  • Spring Season Refunds:  Due to the short length of the Spring season, refunds will only be considered for medical reasons.  Requests must be presented to the board in writing, together with a Doctor’s Certificate.

Late & NSF Payments

  • When paying by instalment, whether by credit card (on-line), cash, cheque or money order, it is the Member's responsibility to ensure that payment is received by MFSC on or before the due date.  Late payments and/or NSF Cheques will each be subject to a $25 fee.  For installment due dates, please refer to Step 4 in the Registration Steps document.

 

Penalties for Missed Bingos or Volunteer Hours

  • Bingo:  For each Junior, Intermediate, Senior A, and Senior B skater, at total of two (2) bingo sessions must be scheduled and attended during the period of September 2008 and August 2009. Where there are two or more skaters, the maximum family commitment is four (4) bingos.  Should it be necessary to change a bingo date, you must notify the Bingo coordinator a minimum of 48 hours prior to the date; otherwise you will be charged the $150.00 fee for non-attendance. The $150.00 non-attendance fee is due immediately; failure to pay will result in suspension of skating privileges until payment to the club has been made.
  • Required Volunteer Hours:  Each Junior, Intermediate, Senior A and Senior B Skater, or their Parent/Guardian if the skater is under the age of 16 years, will be required to do 5 volunteer hours per skater to a maximum of 15 hours per family during the Fall/Winter season. If these hours are not done, you will incur a charge of $25.00 per hour, for each hour not worked. Failure to pay this fee promptly upon notification by the Club will result in immediate suspension of skater(s) privileges. Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate and Adult classifications are exempt from this requirement.

Based on the CRA rules:


Tax receipts for fees paid in calendar 2008 will be issued no later than February 28, 2009.  Any receipts that are not picked up in person at the rink, will be sent to the address on file.  Please make sure to inform us if you move.


Tax receipts will only be issued for sessions that are less than 8 weeks if they are taken consecutive with, or at the same time as, sessions that meet the 8 week minimum requirement. (this may apply to Spring 2008 session fees)


Tax receipts will not be issued for the following, as they are not part of the registration fees: fundraising, test fees, competition fees, Ice Show fees, Guest fees, Skater Development session fees, any other non-program fees.

 

2008 Tax Receipts will not be issued for skaters born in 1991 or earlier.

 

Note:  Tax receipts must identify the Person who actually paid the child’s fees.  If payment is made by a family member other than a Parent, the credit may not be usable as only a Parent can claim the Fitness Tax Credit for a dependent child.
